Screenshots are how text travels when it cannot be copied: an error dialog that will not let you select it, a message in an app with copy disabled, a slide from a video call, a tweet, a paragraph from a PDF viewer that blocks selection. The words are visible but locked. Optical character recognition reads the pixels and hands the text back to you as text, which you can paste into a search box, a bug report, a spreadsheet or a translation tool.
Screen text is the easiest material OCR ever sees. It is sharp, evenly lit, perfectly horizontal and rendered in regular fonts, so recognition on a normal screenshot is usually very accurate; expect errors mainly on very small type and on characters that look alike, such as a lowercase L and the digit 1. Capture at the screen's native size rather than a scaled-down version, and crop out toolbars and icons so the engine spends its effort on the words. The known limits: columns and tables come back as plain lines without their grid, so you will have to rebuild the layout; and recognition is tuned for English, Portuguese, Spanish and Hindi, so a screenshot in another script will be unreliable. The reading happens in your browser; a screenshot of a bank page or a private chat is never uploaded.

- Yes — clear monospaced text reads well, so it's handy for grabbing an error message you can't select.
- Can it extract a table from a screenshot into a spreadsheet?
- It returns the cell text as lines, not as a grid. You can paste the lines into a spreadsheet and split them into columns by hand, but the structure is not rebuilt automatically.
- Can I save the extracted text as a file?
- Yes. Copy the result to the clipboard or download it as a .txt file. For a formatted document, paste the text into a word processor and apply the styling there.
