drop a heavy GIF — optimized on your device for Discord/Slack

GIFs get heavy fast, and the places you want to post them have limits: Discord, Slack, a forum signature, an email. This tool makes a GIF smaller by changing the three things that actually determine its size: frame rate, width and number of colours.

Each control has a visible cost, which is why you adjust them yourself instead of pressing one "compress" button. Fewer frames per second makes motion a little choppier. A narrower width makes it less sharp. Fewer colours can add banding in smooth gradients but is nearly invisible in screen recordings and cartoons. After each run the new size is shown next to the original, so you can stop as soon as it fits.

The GIF is processed on your device and never uploaded. A useful order of attack: reduce the width first, since halving it removes about three quarters of the data, then the frame rate, and colours last.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a GIF under Discord's limit?
Lower the width, frame rate and colors here until it fits — the preview shows the new size instantly.
Is it uploaded?
No — the GIF is optimized entirely on your device.
Which setting saves the most space?
Width. Going from 800 to 480 pixels cuts the file by more than half. Frame rate comes second, colours third.
Will the GIF still loop?
Yes. Looping is kept as in the original.
