bitrate calculated from your target — compressed on your device, never uploaded

Every video compressor promises "smaller", but when a platform gives you a hard limit — Discord's 20MB, WhatsApp's 16MB, an email attachment cap — smaller isn't the job. Under the limit is the job. Most tools apply a generic quality setting and hope; you find out they missed only after waiting for the whole process, then try again blind.

This tool does the arithmetic instead: it reads your video's duration, computes the exact bitrate that fits your target, budgets for audio and container overhead, and encodes to that number. If the first pass lands over, it measures the error and re-encodes once with a corrected rate. At very small targets it also lowers the resolution intelligently — 480p that plays smoothly beats 1080p that looks like soup. All of it happens on your device: a 2GB source never crawls up your connection to someone's server.

Frequently asked questions

How close to the target will the file be?
Typically within a few percent under it — the encoder aims at ~92% of your target to leave room for container overhead, and auto-retries once with a measured correction if the first attempt lands over.
What happens to quality at small sizes?
Quality is exactly what your target allows — a 5-minute video squeezed to 8MB will look soft, and no tool can change that math. This one spends the budget as well as possible: lower resolution at low bitrates, capped peaks, efficient H.264 encoding.
My video is already under the target — what then?
It is returned untouched, marked as such. Re-encoding a file that already fits would only lose quality for nothing.
Why do other sites' results come out over the limit?
Because they apply a fixed quality level (CRF) regardless of duration — the output size is whatever it happens to be. Hitting a size requires computing bitrate from duration, which is what this tool does.
