Ten megabytes is one of the most common caps on the web: upload forms, help-desk tickets, school and job portals, and many mail servers for a single attachment. It was also Discord's free limit until August 2026, when Discord raised it to 20 MB (for Discord, use the 20MB page). A 30-second phone clip can be 50 MB, so almost everything needs shrinking first, and the usual tools apply a quality preset, hand back an 11.4 MB file and leave you to guess again. This page is set to 10 MB and does the arithmetic instead of guessing.

The tool reads the duration of your clip, works out the exact video bitrate that fits 10 MB once audio and container overhead are budgeted, and encodes to that number. If the first pass lands slightly over, it measures the error and re-encodes once with a corrected rate. Short clips get plenty of bitrate and look clean; longer ones share 10 MB across more seconds, so the tool also lowers the resolution where that beats a blocky 1080p. The encoding happens on your device, so a 200 MB source never has to be uploaded, and the result carries no watermark.

The limit is simple maths. Ten megabytes is about 80 megabits, so a 60-second clip gets roughly 1.3 Mbps and a five-minute one about 270 kbps, which looks rough. Trim the clip to the moment that matters before compressing and the quality improves more than any setting can.

Frequently asked questions

Will a 1-minute gaming clip still look good at 10MB?
Yes — around 1.2Mbps of video, which handles most gameplay well at 720p. Fast-motion 60fps footage will show some softness; that is the physics of 10MB, not the tool.
Does Nitro change anything?
Nitro raises the limit to 500MB — if you have it, you rarely need this page. The 10MB target is for the free tier everyone actually uses.
How long a clip can fit under 10 MB and still look good?
Roughly a minute to ninety seconds for gameplay or phone video at a watchable quality. Beyond that the bitrate per second drops fast and the picture turns soft; a five-minute clip will fit, but it will look rough.
Should I trim the clip before compressing it?
Yes, whenever you can. Every second you cut leaves more bitrate for the seconds that remain, so a 20-second highlight at 10 MB looks far better than the full two-minute recording squeezed to the same size.
