A single photo spread across your Instagram grid, with each tile a piece of a bigger picture, is the kind of profile that stops people scrolling: a product launch across six tiles, a wedding panorama across three, a mural across nine. Instagram offers no way to do it; the picture has to be cut into equal 3:4 tiles, the shape the profile grid has used since 2025, and posted in sequence. This page does the cutting, into a 3 by 1 strip, a 3 by 2 block or a full 3 by 3, and hands the pieces back in a ZIP.
The part that trips most people up is the order, because the profile shows the newest post first and runs backwards from there. The files are named in posting order, so you upload number one first, then two, and the grid builds itself the right way round. Post all the tiles in one sitting, and remember that every single post you add afterwards shifts the whole grid by one; post in threes from then on to keep rows aligned.
Start from the biggest photo you have, ideally 3000 pixels wide or more, so each tile is still around 1000 pixels and stays sharp on a phone. The tool crops the picture from the centre to the overall shape of the grid (9:4 for a 3 by 1 strip, 9:8 for 3 by 2, 3:4 for 3 by 3); crop it yourself first if the subject is off-centre. The splitting is done on your device and the photo is never uploaded.

- What order do I post the pieces in?
- Post them in reverse-numbered order isn't needed — just follow the file numbers (post-01 first). Instagram fills the grid so they line up.
- What grid sizes are supported?
- Common layouts like 3×1, 3×2 and 3×3, so you can make a banner strip or a full multi-row mural.
- What shape should the original photo be?
- Close to the overall shape of the grid you plan to post: about 9:4 for a single row of three, 9:8 for two rows and 3:4 for the full 3×3, because each tile is a 3:4 portrait. The tool crops from the centre, so crop it yourself first if the subject is off to one side.
- Can I post the tiles as a carousel instead?
- No. A carousel is one post that people swipe through, and it shows as a single tile on your profile. The grid effect only appears when each tile is published as its own separate post.
