A round picture is rarely required by the platforms that display one. Slack, Discord, Instagram and most social apps take a square and draw the circle themselves. Where you actually need the circle baked into the file is everywhere else: an email signature, a speaker card on a website, a team slide, a conference badge, a Word or Google Docs document, a printed name tag.
This page produces the circle as a PNG with transparent corners, so it sits on any colour or photo behind it without a halo. The crop is taken from the centre of your picture and uses the largest circle that fits, which is right for a portrait where the face is in the middle. A wide landscape shot loses both sides, and a subject near an edge may be cut, so for those photos crop roughly to a square around the subject in your gallery first and let this tool make the circle.
Keep the result as PNG. Converting it to JPG later fills the transparent corners with white, since JPG cannot store transparency; the transparent version is also a little larger than a JPG of the same picture, which is the price of clean corners. The cropping happens on your device and the photo is not uploaded.

- Why did my circle get white corners?
- Somewhere along the way it was saved as JPG, which has no transparency, so the corners were filled with white. Use the PNG this tool gives you and avoid converting it to JPG.
