MP4 is the format nearly every phone, screen recorder, camera and download produces, and in a lot of those files the video is dead weight: a two-hour lecture recording you want to play while driving, a podcast interview recorded over a video call, a voice message someone sent as a clip, a concert you filmed and only want to hear. This page takes the audio track from an MP4 and saves it as an MP3 that any phone, car stereo or podcast app will play.
The conversion is done by FFmpeg running inside your browser. That has two practical consequences. The MP4 is never uploaded, so a recording of a private meeting stays on your device. And because nothing travels over the network, there is no file-size ceiling other than your device's memory, which is why a long recording works here when upload-based converters time out. MOV, WebM, MKV and other common containers go through the same path if your file is not an MP4.
To be precise about what this is not: it does not download from YouTube, TikTok, Instagram or any website. It converts a file that is already on your computer or phone. - What if the MP4 has no audio track?
- Then there is nothing to extract, and the result will be silent or empty. Play the file first and confirm it has sound; screen recordings in particular are often captured with the microphone off.
