The photo you take of a sofa you are selling, a cake you baked or your dog in the garden carries the coordinates of your garden. Phones write latitude and longitude into the file by default, accurate to a few metres, and anyone who downloads the picture can read them with a free viewer. On a marketplace listing, a forum post, a dating profile or a photo emailed to a stranger, that is your home address attached to the image.
This page reads the hidden data first and shows it to you, including the location if there is one, then builds a clean copy of the picture without it. The image looks identical; only the invisible record is gone. Because the point is privacy, the reading and the rebuilding both happen on your own device and the photo is never uploaded.
The clean copy drops all of the metadata, not just the GPS fields, so the date taken and the camera model go with it; note them elsewhere if you need them. And stripping coordinates does nothing about what is visible in the picture itself: a house number, a street sign or a reflection in a window can give away as much as the data did. Check the frame, and use the Blur / Redact tool for anything that should not travel.

- How do I know my photo has GPS data?
- Load it here and the viewer shows any embedded coordinates. If it's there, download the cleaned copy to remove it.
- Do social networks already strip this?
- Some do on upload, but not everywhere — and not when you send the original file directly. Removing it yourself is the only guarantee.
- Can I remove only the location and keep the date and camera details?
- No. The clean copy is rebuilt without any metadata at all, so the date, camera model and other fields are removed together with the coordinates. If the date matters, write it down before cleaning.
- Does removing GPS data hide where the photo was taken?
- Only the recorded coordinates. Anything visible in the picture, such as a street sign, a house number or a familiar landmark, still shows the place. Crop or redact those details separately if the location must stay private.
