A LinkedIn profile banner is a wide strip: 1584 pixels across and 396 tall, a 4:1 ratio that almost no photo comes in naturally. Upload a normal landscape photo and LinkedIn shows a thin slice of the middle, usually cutting through the most interesting part. Preparing the image at the exact size before you upload means you decide which slice is shown. This page is set to force 1584 by 396, so the file you download is the exact canvas LinkedIn expects.
Because the dimensions are forced, the image must already be close to 4:1 or it will be stretched. The reliable method is to crop a wide band out of your photo or design first and then resize that band here. Two layout details matter more than the pixel count. On a desktop screen your round profile photo sits over the lower-left corner of the banner, so keep text and logos in the right-hand two-thirds and vertically centred. In the LinkedIn app the banner is shown narrower and the left and right edges are trimmed, which is another reason to keep anything important near the middle. Note that this size is for a personal profile; company page covers use a different, shorter shape.

Frequently asked questions
- What size is a LinkedIn cover photo?
- 1584×396 pixels for the personal profile background banner. This tool matches it exactly.
- Why does LinkedIn crop my banner?
- Because the ratio is off. At 1584×396 (4:1) it fits the banner area, though keep key elements centered as edges can vary by device.
- Is 1584x396 also right for a LinkedIn company page?
- No. Company and showcase page covers use a different, shorter ratio (1128 by 191), so an image made at 1584 by 396 will be cropped there. This preset is for the personal profile background only.
- What file type and size does LinkedIn accept for a banner?
- LinkedIn takes JPG and PNG and caps the banner upload at 8 MB. A 1584 by 396 image is normally well under 1 MB; if yours is larger, run it through the Compress Image tool.

- 300 DPI explained: what print shops actually want from your image DPI is a number stored in the file, not a measure of quality. What "300 DPI" really asks for, the pixel sizes that print sharp at common paper sizes, when changing the tag is enough, and when you genuinely need more pixels.
