512 by 512 pixels is a size that keeps coming up in technical contexts. Telegram stickers must have one side exactly 512 pixels; app icon sets, PWA manifests and favicons use a 512 PNG as their largest source; many image-generation and machine-learning tools expect square inputs of this size; game engines and texture libraries favour powers of two. This page is set to produce exactly that square, with aspect-ratio locking switched off so the output is always 512 by 512 whatever shape goes in.

That last point is the one to think about. If your source image is not square, forcing it to 512 by 512 will stretch it: a 4:3 photo becomes narrower, a wide banner is squashed. For a logo or a face that is usually not what you want. Crop the picture to a square first, using the Crop tool on this site, and then resize it here; the result will be undistorted. If the source is a square already, the resize is clean.

Direction matters too. Shrinking a 1024 or 2048 pixel image down to 512 keeps it sharp. Going up from a 128 or 256 pixel icon adds pixels without adding detail, so the result looks soft; the Image Upscaler on this site is the better route for that. The resize happens on your device and the file is never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Why 512x512 specifically?
It's a common power-of-two square used by app stores, icon sets and many AI tools that expect square inputs.
My image isn't square — what happens?
With aspect ratio locked off, it's stretched to a perfect square. Crop it to square first if you want to avoid distortion.
Is 512×512 the right size for Telegram stickers?
Telegram requires at least one side to be exactly 512 pixels, so a 512×512 square qualifies. Check Telegram's format and file-size rules separately; this page only sets the dimensions.
Can I enlarge a 256×256 icon to 512×512 here?
You can, but the tool adds pixels, not detail, so a doubled icon looks softer than the original. For a cleaner enlargement use the Image Upscaler on this site, which sharpens as it scales.
