WebP exists to make web pages lighter, and that is where converting your JPGs pays off. Google's PageSpeed report flags JPG images and asks for modern formats; a product gallery, a portfolio or a blog with a hundred photos loads noticeably faster once they are WebP, and the bandwidth bill drops with it. WordPress has accepted WebP uploads since version 5.8, and most modern site builders handle it, so there is rarely a technical reason to hold back.
The conversion here is done by your browser's own image engine, which is the same code that decodes WebP on every site you visit, and the JPG is never sent to a server. Drop it in and download the WebP; the file typically comes out around a quarter to a third smaller at a quality that looks the same on screen.
Two honest points. Converting a JPG to WebP is a second lossy pass, since the JPG was already compressed once. Keep the original for any future editing and treat the WebP as the delivery copy. And WebP is for the web: some desktop programs and older email clients still refuse to open it, so if the image is going to a printer, a client or a form, a JPG is still the safer file to send.

- Photos and graphics all benefit, so usually yes for anything a browser displays. Keep the JPG originals in storage for editing and as a fallback for the few old programs that cannot show WebP.
- Does converting JPG to WebP lose quality?
- Slightly. WebP compresses again, so there is a second generation of loss, invisible at normal viewing but real. Convert once from the best JPG you have and avoid converting back and forth between formats.
