⬇️ One-time download: 104 MB (Accurate model 73 MB + 31 MB audio engine, shared with the video tools) — only the first time: it stays saved in your browser, so next time it starts right away. (Translating or switching model needs its own file; a browser can clear this cache if storage runs very low.) Processing takes about 4-8 min per 10 minutes of audio on a typical laptop.
What exactly is downloaded — and is it safe?
  • • The speech model is OpenAI's Whisper, open source, converted to run in browsers. The audio engine is FFmpeg, the open-source tool behind most video software.
  • • They come from Hugging Face and unpkg — public repositories used by researchers and developers worldwide, not from us.
  • • They are not programs. Nothing is installed, no permission is asked, and your browser keeps them in its own cache exactly like it keeps a website's images.
  • • They can't read your files or touch anything outside this page. Remove them any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.
  • • Your audio never goes the other way: this site has no server receiving files.

transcribed on your device by OpenAI's Whisper — your recording is not uploaded

ℹ️ Use a recording on your device that you own or have permission to process. This tool cannot fetch YouTube or social video links. Start with a short clip. Larger models can improve accuracy but require more memory and download data. Processing time varies by device, model and recording length. Always review the result.

A common reason to transcribe Indonesian audio is the thesis interview: students record a wawancara with a respondent and then face hours of typing to turn it into a transcript for the appendix. Lecturers, journalists and podcasters have the same problem at a different scale. This page starts with Bahasa Indonesia preset as the language, so the model does not have to guess from the opening seconds, and returns plain text you can copy straight into a document or download as a file.

The language itself is friendly to recognition because words are spelled as they sound, so a clear recording of one or two people produces a transcript that needs only light correction. What pushes the error rate up is not Indonesian but what surrounds it: an interview that slips into Javanese or Sundanese mid-sentence, a respondent speaking across a room from the phone, and the clipped, half-swallowed delivery of informal conversation. For those, choose the Best model. For phone users on mobile data: processing happens on your device in the default Private mode, so nothing is uploaded and a two-hour recording costs no data to transcribe; the one-off model download is the only large transfer, so do it on Wi-Fi. Review names, figures and anything you will quote before it goes into a report.

Frequently asked questions

Does it handle casual Jakarta Indonesian?
Reasonably, with more errors than on formal speech. Slang and English mixed in are the hard parts; use the Best model for difficult recordings.
Does Malay work on this page?
Malay is a separate language in the model and is not in our list yet, so results for Malay audio are inconsistent. Indonesian audio is what this page is for.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes for short recordings. Long files are better handled on a computer, which has more memory and is faster.
Does it handle an interview that switches into Javanese or Sundanese?
Not well. The language is fixed to Indonesian on this page, so passages in a regional language come out as approximate Indonesian or nonsense. Transcribe those sections by hand or mark them for later.
Can I use the transcript for a thesis appendix?
Yes, as a draft. Check names, numbers and quoted statements against the recording, and add speaker labels and timestamps in the format your faculty requires before submitting it.

🔒 Private mode (the default): your recording never leaves your device. Instant mode is optional, you switch it on yourself, and it sends the audio to the browser's speech service.
