German biometric photos are 35 by 45 millimetres, with the face centred and filling 70 to 80 per cent of the height, a neutral expression with the mouth closed, eyes open and looking straight into the lens, no head tilt, and a light, evenly lit, single-colour background. The same specification covers the Reisepass, the Personalausweis and the electronic residence permit.

This page sizes a photo you took at home to that standard. The AI model removes the background and replaces it with plain light grey (white is one click away), the image is scaled to 35 by 45 millimetres at print resolution, and you get both a digital file and a print sheet with several copies. The photo is processed in your browser and is not uploaded.

The honest caveat is specific to Germany. Since May 2025, passport and ID offices accept photos only as digital files transmitted securely from a certified photo studio or taken at a terminal in the office itself; paper prints and files from home are no longer accepted for those documents. The 35 by 45 biometric format is still what many other applications ask for, from visa applications to other countries to employer records and university cards, and this tool produces it correctly.
