Vietnam's documents use a 4 by 6 centimetre portrait, taller and narrower than the 35 by 45 photo most countries share, so a picture made for another passport is the wrong shape here. The e-visa portal asks for a recent portrait at that format on a white background, face straight to the camera and without glasses, uploaded alongside a scan of your passport page.

This page sets the Vietnam preset for you. Drop a photo taken at home, and an AI model removes the background, replaces it with white and sizes the result to 40 by 60 millimetres at print resolution. You get a digital file for the e-visa upload and a print sheet with several copies that any photo kiosk prints as a single 4 by 6 inch print. The processing happens in your browser, so the photo is not uploaded.

The limits are the usual ones. The tool sets dimensions and background but not the pose, so take the picture in even light with no shadow behind the head, hair off the face and a neutral expression. The portal also enforces its own file-size cap on the upload; if the JPG is refused for size, run it through the Compress Image tool on this site. Check the official e-visa site for the current rules before you apply.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the Vietnam photo 4×6 cm?
It's Vietnam's national standard, taller than the common 35×45mm — which is why photos made for other countries get rejected there.
Does the e-visa need a digital or printed photo?
The e-visa is applied for online with a digital upload; visa-on-arrival may ask for printed copies. This tool gives you both the file and a printable sheet.
Why is my 35 by 45 passport photo rejected by the Vietnam e-visa?
Because the ratio is wrong. Vietnam's 4 by 6 centimetre format is proportionally taller, and the portal expects that shape. Make a new file with this preset from the original photo rather than stretching the old one.
Do I need printed copies as well as the digital file?
For the e-visa, the upload is enough; carry a printout of the visa approval. For visa on arrival or an embassy application, bring two printed 4 by 6 photos, which the print sheet from this page provides.
